History Enthusiasts cannot pass up a chance to visit the town archives and learn about the history of Lemgo.

The Municipal archives housed at the Suesterhaus contain the historical records of the townspeople dating form the Middle Ages through today. These records tell the story of the rise of the town of Lemgo with the Hanseatic League through its decline during the 30 years war and highlight the significance of Lemgo as a place for printing publishing during the middles ages as well as the growth of industry during the period of industrialization. Even history about the dark times of National Socialism and the persecution of Jews can be found here.

Lemgo houses the world most important German language documents pertaining to the more than 200 witch trials that took place here between the 16 and 17th centuries.
